How to read a state tax comparison
Use the same taxable income, filing status, home value, and taxable spending in both states. Statewide averages make the first comparison consistent, while locality-specific rates make the final estimate more realistic.
These pages compare taxes, not total cost of living. Housing, insurance, wages, transportation, utilities, and other costs need separate current evidence. Part-year residency, remote work, and local income taxes can also change a household's result.
